The McLean County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Washburn .

The county is located slightly northwest of the geographic center of North Dakota and has an area of ​​6030 square kilometers, of which 565 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Ward County , McHenry County , Sheridan County , Burleigh County , Oliver County , Mercer County , Dunn County, and Mountrail Counties .

history

McLean County was formed on March 8, 1883 and finally organized on November 1 of the same year. It was named after John A. McLean , who became the first mayor of Bismarck in 1883 .

The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church (2007) is one of seven entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .

Seven buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 29, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , McLean County had 9,311 people in 3,815 households and 2,712 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.52 percent white, 0.02 percent African American, 5.95 percent Native American, 0.12 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.19 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.18 percent were descended from two or more races.
