The Pembina County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State North Dakota . In 2010 , the county had 7,413 residents and a population density of 2.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Cavalier .
geography
The county is located in the far northeast of North Dakota. It is traversed by the Pembina River , a left tributary of the Red River of the North that forms the border with Minnesota . The county borders Canada to the north . It has an area of 2,905 square kilometers, of which 8 square kilometers are water.

history
Pembina County was formed in 1867. It was named after anepeminan sipi , the Ojibwe word for cranberries , which are common in the region along the rivers. The seat of the administration was in Pembina until 1911 when it was moved to Cavalier .
Ten structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 29, 2018).

According to the 2010 census , Pembina County had 7,413 people in 3,304 households. The population density was 2.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.18 people lived in each of the 3,304 households.
The racial the population was composed of 95.8 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 1.9 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.6 percent of the population regardless of ethnicity.
21.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.0 percent were between 18 and 64 and 20.9 percent were 65 years or older. 48.9 percent of the population was female.
