Pierce County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is rugby .

The county is located in the north-central part of North Dakota and has an area of ​​2803 square kilometers, of which 167 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rolette County , Towner County , Benson County , Wells County , Sheridan County , McHenry County, and Bottineau Counties .

history

Pierce County was formed on March 11, 1887 and finally organized on April 6, 1889. It was named after Gilbert Ashville Pierce , a governor of the Dakota Territory and later US Senator from North Dakota and ambassador to Portugal .

Seven buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 29, 2018).
