The county is located in east-east North Dakota and has an area of ​​2957 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Nelson County , Steele County , Barnes County , Stutsman County , Foster County, and Eddy County .

history

Griggs County was formed in 1881. It was named after Alexander Griggs , the captain of a steamship and founder of the city of Grand Forks .

The Northern Lights Masonic Lodge (2017) is one of four entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .

Four buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 24, 2018).
