The Dunn County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Manning .

The county is located in west-central North Dakota and has an area of ​​5393 square kilometers, of which 188 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Mountrail County , McLean County , Mercer County , Stark County , Billings County, and McKenzie Counties .

history

Dunn County was formed on March 9, 1883 and dissolved in 1896. On May 24, 1901, the county was created again and finally organized on February 10, 1908. It was named after John P. Dunn , an early political leader and mayor of Bismarck .

In County is a National Historic Landmark , the pre-Columbian quarry Lynch Knife River Flint Quarry . Three buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 22, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Dunn County had 3,600 people in 1,378 households and 986 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.58 percent white, 0.03 percent African American, 12.44 percent Native American and 0.08 percent Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.75 percent of the population.

Of the 1,378 households, 32.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers, 28.4 percent were non-families, 25.3 percent were single households and 12.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.11.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 103.6 men.

The median income for a household in the 30,015 USD , and the median income for a family was 34,405 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,226 versus $ 17,143 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,624. 13.8 percent of families and 17.5 percent families lived below the poverty line.
