The Cavalier County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Langdon .

geography

The county is located in northeast North Dakota, borders Canada to the north and has an area of ​​3911 square kilometers, of which 56 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in the United States in a clockwise direction: Pembina County , Walsh County , Ramsey County, and Towner County .

history

Cavalier County was formed on January 4, 1873, and completed on July 8, 1884. It was named after Charles Cavalier , one of the first settlers in the area to immigrate from Europe.

The Roxy Theater, North Dakota (2009) is one of two entries for the county on the National Register of Historic Places .

Two places in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of March 21, 2018.

As of the 2000 census , there were 4,831 people in 2,017 households and 1,361 families in Cavalier County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.10 percent white, 0.14 percent African American, 0.52 percent Native American, 0.10 percent Asian and 0.10 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.03 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.64 percent of the population.

Of the 2,017 households, 27.5 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.8 percent were married couples living together, 3.8 percent were single mothers, 32.5 percent were non-families, 30.8 percent were single households and 17.0 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.93.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 3.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 21.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.5 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 22.9 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 97.6 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,868 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,601. Males had a median income of $ 28,886 versus $ 19,647 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,817. 7.8 percent of families and 11.5 percent families lived below the poverty line.
