Stutsman County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Jamestown .

geography

The county is located in the central southeast of North Dakota and has an area of ​​5952 square kilometers, of which 199 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Foster County , Griggs County , Barnes County , LaMoure County , Logan County , Kidder County, and Wells County .

history

Stutsman County was formed on January 4, 1873 and finally organized on June 20 of the same year. It was named after Enos Stutsman , a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Dakota Territory .

According to the 2000 census , Stutsman County had 21,908 people in 8,954 households and 5,649 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.53 percent white, 0.28 percent African American, 0.94 percent Native American, 0.37 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.21 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.64 percent were descended from two or more races. For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.8 percent of residents under the age of 18, 10.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.7 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 23.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 93.2 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,848 , and the median income for a family is $ 42,853. Males had a median income of $ 28,529 versus $ 20,397 for females.
