Sioux County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Fort Yates . The entire county is part of the Standing Rock Reservation , which also extends over parts of South Dakota.

The county is located in southern North Dakota, bordering South Dakota and has an area of 2922 square kilometers, of which 89 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Morton County , Emmons County , Corson County, South Dakota, Adams County, and Grant County .

Sioux County was formed in 1915. It was named after the North American Indian people of the Sioux .

The racial the population was composed of 84.59 percent Native American, 14.34 percent white, 0.02 percent African American, 0.02 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.07 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
