The Kidder County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Steele .

The county is located a little southeast of the geographic center of North Dakota and has an area of ​​3712 square kilometers, of which 213 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wells County , Stutsman County , Logan County , Emmons County , Burleigh County, and Sheridan County .

history

Kidder County was formed in 1873. It was named after Jefferson Parrish Kidder , a Dakota Territory delegate to the 44th and 45th US Congresses.

Three buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 26, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Kidder County had 2,753 people in 1,158 households and 787 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.49 percent white, 0.18 percent African American, 0.11 percent Native American and 0.07 percent Asian; 0.15 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.58 percent of the population.

Of the 1,158 households, 27.2 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 60.7 percent were married couples living together, 4.1 percent were single mothers, 32.0 percent were non-families, 29.9 percent were single households, and 17.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.91 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 23.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 24.0 percent were 65 years of age or over.
