Towner County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Cando .

The county is located a little east of north North Dakota, borders Canada and has an area of 2,698 square kilometers, of which 44 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in the United States in a clockwise direction: Cavalier County , Ramsey County , Benson County , Pierce County, and Rolette Counties .
history
Towner County was formed in 1883. It was named after Oscar M. Towner .
One of the county's structures is on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 3, 2018), the Towner County Courthouse .

As of the 2000 census , Towner County had 2,876 people in 1,218 households and 785 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.32 percent white, 0.07 percent African American, 2.05 percent Native American, 0.07 percent Asian and 0.03 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.45 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.17 percent of the population.
Of the 1,218 households, 27.3 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 56.9 percent were married couples living together, 4.6 percent were single mothers, 35.5 percent were non-families, 33.6 percent were single households and 18.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.93.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.6 percent of residents under the age of 18, 3.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 23.3 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 97.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 96.0 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,740 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,286. Males had a median income of $ 24,917 versus $ 17,335 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,605. 6.3 percent of families and 8.9 percent families lived below the poverty line. 9.2 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 8.8 percent were people over 65 years of age.
