The Divide County is a county in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Crosby .

The county is located in the far northwest of North Dakota, borders Canada to the north and Montana to the west and has an area of 3,352 square kilometers, 90 square kilometers of which are water. It borders the following counties in the United States in a clockwise direction: Burke County , Williams County, and Sheridan Counties , Montana.

history

Divide County was formed in 1910. It was probably named after the state of division of Williams County or possibly after the continental divide between the Missouri River and the Red River of the North on which the county lies.

Five buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 22, 2018).

Divide County's Age Pyramid

As of the 2000 census , Divide County had 2,283 people in 1,005 households and 649 families. The population density was 0.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.99 percent white, 0.13 percent Native American, 0.53 percent Asian and 0.18 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.18 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.61 percent of the population.

Of the 1,005 households, 22.5 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 56.8 percent were married couples living together, 4.2 percent were single mothers, 35.4 percent were non-families, 33.4 percent were single households, and 19.9 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.79 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 20.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 3.6 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 20.1 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 29.5 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females there were 100.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 97.5 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 30,089 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,292. Males had a median income of $ 28,333 versus $ 16,371 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,225. 9.5 percent of families and 14.6 percent families lived below the poverty line. Of these, 19.5 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 14.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
