Sheridan County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Plentywood . It is named after Philip Sheridan, a civil war general.

The county had a population of 4,105 as of the 2000 census . There were 1,741 households and 41,640 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.00% White, 0.10% African American, 1.22% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 0.19% other races Groups; 1.17% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.07% of the population.

Of the 1,741 households, 27.00% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.50% were married couples living together, 4.80% were single mothers. 34.50% were not families. 32.30% are single households and 16.60% have someone living there who is 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.87 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.90% residents under 18 years of age, 4.80% between 18 and 24 years of age, 22.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.50% between 45 and 64 years of age 23.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 98.70 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.80 males.

The median income for a household in the 29,518 USD , and the median income for a family was 35,345 USD. Males had a median income of $ 23,053 versus $ 20,112 for females.
