Granite County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Philipsburg .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 2,830 people. There were 1,200 households and 784 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.25% White, 0.00% African American, 1.27% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 0.46% other races Groups; 1.84% came from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.27% of the population.

Of the 1,200 households, 27.10% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 54.70% were married couples living together, 7.40% were single mothers. 34.60% were not families. 30.10% were single households and 12.30% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.91 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.20% residents under the age of 18, 5.70% between 18 and 24 years old, 23.30% between 25 and 44 years old, 30.80% between 45 and 64 years old 15.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 105.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 102.60 males.

The median income for a household in the 27,813 USD , and the median income for a family was 33,485 USD. Males had a median income of $ 26,250 versus $ 17,961 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,636. 16.80% of the population and 13.90% of families are below the poverty line. 24.20% of these were under 18 years of age and 8.50% were 65 years of age or older.
