As of the 2000 census , the county had 2,837 people. There were 1,140 households and 803 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.59% White, 0.14% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 0.11% other races Groups; 0.46% came from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.39% of the population.
