Hill County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Havre .

According to the 2000 census , the county had 16,673 people. There were 6,457 households and 4,255 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 79.55% White, 0.09% African American, 17.30% Native American, 0.37% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 0.35% other races Groups; 2.32% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.25% of the population.
Of the 6,457 households, 34.30% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 50.50% were married couples living together, 10.90% were single mothers. 34.10% were not families. 28.60% were single households and 11.40% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.15.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.20% of residents under 18 years of age, 11.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.00% between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 12.80% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 99.30 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.40 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 30,781 , and the median income for a family was $ 38,179. Males had a median income of $ 29,908 versus $ 19,874 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,935. 18.40% of the population and 15.30% of families are below the poverty line. 23.30% of these were under 18 years of age and 9.00% were 65 years of age or older.
