Ravalli County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Hamilton .
The county extends over the Bitterroot Valley, through which the Bitterroot River flows.

According to the 2000 census , the county had 36,070 people. There were 14,289 households and 10,188 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.71% White, 0.14% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, and 0.44% other races Groups; 1.44% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.88% of the population.
Of the 14,289 households, 30.20% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 60.30% were married couples living together, 7.50% were single mothers. 28.70% were not families. 24.10% were single households and 9.80% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.94.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 6.20% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.70% between 25 and 44 years of age, 28.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 15.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 98.60 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 95.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,992 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,397. Males had a median income of $ 30,994 versus $ 19,987 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,935. 13.80% of the population and 9.60% of families are below the poverty line. 20.10% of these were under 18 years of age and 6.30% were 65 years of age or older.
