According to the 2000 census , the county had 9,667 people. There were 3,878 households and 2,652 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.57% White, 0.09% African American, 1.46% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 0.85% other races Groups; 0.85% were from two or more races.
