Teton County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Choteau .

According to the 2000 census , the county had 6,445 people. There were 2,538 households and 1,761 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.31% White, 0.19% African American, 1.52% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 0.42% other races Groups; 1.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.13% of the population.

Of the 2,538 households, 31.60% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 61.10% were married couples living together, 5.90% were single mothers. 30.60% were not families. 27.30% are single households and 13.90% have someone living there who is 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.09.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.30% of residents under 18 years of age, 6.10% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 16.60% were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 97.00 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.00 males.

The median income for a household in the 30,197 USD , and the median income for a family was 36,662 USD. Males had a median income of $ 25,794 versus $ 18,389 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,635. 16.60% of the population and 12.20% of families are below the poverty line. 25.60% of them were under 18 years of age and 8.40% were 65 years of age or older.
