Choteau is a city in the US state of Montana , United States and the administrative seat of Teton County . The city is named after Pierre Chouteau, Jr. , a fur trader and explorer.

Choteau is located in northwest Montana, approximately 20 miles east of the Rocky Mountains near the Flathead National Forest . Not far from the city is the Teton River . The urban area has an area of ​​4.74 km².

Choteau is crossed by US Highway 89 , which runs from Flagstaff in Arizona to the Canadian border. In addition, the US Highway 287 coming from Port Arthur (Texas) ends in Choteau .
