The Flathead National Forest is a National Forest , the western part of the US state of Montana is located. The forest covers an area of ​​9300 km², of which 4000 km² are designated as wilderness . It is named after the Flathead Indians who lived there. The forest is located in the Rocky Mountains and rises between 1400 m and 2600 m altitude. The forest provides habitat for around 250 species of wild animals and 22 species of fish.
