Eduard Pelissier

Anton Benedict Eduard Pelissier (born January 16, 1850 in Hanau , † January 24, 1931 in Königstein im Taunus ) was a German high school teacher and historian.

Life

Eduard Pelissier was born in Hanau in 1850 as the son of the painter and director of the electoral drawing academy in Hanau Theodor Pelissier (* July 28, 1794 in Geneva, † October 25, 1863 in Hanau).

After passing high school in autumn 1867 at the Hohe Landesschule (Hanau), he stayed with his grandfather, the Frankfurt sculptor Eduard Schmidt von der Launitz , until he began studying . From 1868 he studied philology and archeology at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , where he worked in the compound and later fraternity Holzminda occurred. In 1869 he moved to the University of Tübingen , where his uncle Adolf Michaelis taught. His studies were interrupted by the Franco-Prussian War , in which he took part as a volunteer with the reserve battalion of the 82nd Regiment , with which he was involved in the siege of Paris . After his return from France, he served the rest of his service with the 82 Regiment, which was relocated to Göttingen. He was promoted to captain of the Landwehr . From 1871 he began studying comparative linguistics , German studies , classical philology and Sanskrit in Leipzig and passed the state examination for Greek , Latin and German in 1875 after changing his place of study again in Marburg .

After graduating, Pelissier went to Italy as a private tutor for some time and then to London for two years .

From 1878 he completed his probationary year at the Royal French Gymnasium in Berlin . Then worked from 1879 to 1913 as a grammar school professor at the municipal grammar school in Frankfurt am Main and also studied the history of Frankfurt. His main research interests were field naming and the topography of the medieval land holdings of the former Free City of Frankfurt . Pelissier is considered to be the most important researcher of the Frankfurt Landwehr ; his main work Die Landwehr der Reichsstadt Frankfurt am Main appeared in 1905 in the archive for Frankfurt's history and art .
