Martin Meier

Martin Meier (born June 27, 1961 in Birkenfeld (Nahe) ) is cantor and organist at the St. Michael church in Jena and church music director (KMD) in Thuringia .

Live and act

At the age of eight, Martin Meier received his first piano lessons and in 1971 his first position as organist in Veitsrodt . After participating in a choir director course of Sängerbund Rhineland-Palatinate , he received the choirmaster's degree in 1978 and took three choirs (school choir, children's choir, mixed choir). After graduating from high school in 1980, he studied church music at the State University of Music in Frankfurt am Main . After passing the A-exam, he was cantor and organist of the Evangelical Church Community in Frankfurt-Unterliederbach from 1984 to 1991 with extensive concert activities. With the local choir, he worked on larger works of oratorio literature. In the historic village church he planned and supervised the new organ building with the organ building company Alexander Schuke Potsdam . In 1991 he became cantor and organist of the Luther church community in Leer (East Friesland) as well as church music director in and for the Evangelical Lutheran Sprengel Ostfriesland-Ems , where he regularly developed and performed large works of church music as well as scenic sacred and secular musicals for children's choirs.

In June 2003 Martin Meier was appointed cantor and organist of the St. Michael church in Jena and from 2003 to 2010 also regional church music director of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thuringia . Since 2010 he has been teaching artistic and liturgical organ playing at the Evangelical College for Church Music in Halle .

Martin Meier heads the St. Michael Choir in Jena. As an organist and conductor, he regularly organizes church services and concerts at home and abroad, as evidenced by radio, record and CD recordings.
