Treasure County is a county in the central southeast of the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Hysham .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 2550 km 2 , of which 2530 km 2 is land and around km 2 (about 0.7%) is water. Based on the area, Treasure County is the fourth smallest county in the state. A small portion of the Crow Reservation is in the county area.

As of the 2000 census , the county had 861 people. There were 357 households and 242 families. The population density was less than 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.40% White, 0.12% African American, 1.63% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 0.93% other races Groups; 0.58% were from two or more races. 1.51% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 357 households, 30.80% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 59.10% were married couples living together, 4.20% were single mothers. 32.20% were not families. 30.00% were single households and 15.10% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.98 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.80% of residents under 18 years of age, 5.00% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.30% between 45 and 64 years of age 16.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 104.00 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 101.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,830 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,219. Males had a median income of $ 22,750 versus $ 17,188 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,392. 14.70% of the population and 8.50% of families are below the poverty line. 22.80% of these were under 18 years of age and 11.10% were 65 years of age or older.
