As of the 2000 census , the county had 2,259 people. There were 853 households and 540 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.99% White, 0.13% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, and 0.27% other races Groups; 1.64% were from two or more races. 1.11% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
