Lincoln County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Libby . The county is named after former President Abraham Lincoln .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 18,837 people. There were 7,764 households and 5,333 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.09% White, 0.11% African American, 1.20% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 0.39% other races Groups; 1.86% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.44% of the population.

Of the 7,764 households, 29.10% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.10% were married couples living together, 7.80% were single mothers. 31.30% were not families. 26.70% are single households and 10.00% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.90.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.30% of residents under 18 years of age, 5.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, 29.70% between 45 and 64 years of age 15.20% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 102.70 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 100.50 males.

The median income for a household in the 26,754 USD , and the median income for a family was 31,784 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,299 versus $ 20,600 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,923. 19.20% of the population and 14.20% of families are below the poverty line. 26.40% of them were under 18 years of age and 10.80% were 65 years of age or older.
