The county had a population of 95,802 as of the 2000 census . There were 38,439 households and 23,140 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 94.02% White, 0.27% African American, 2.29% Native American, 1.02% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, and 0.45% other races Groups; 1.86% were from two or more races. 1.61% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 38,439 households, 29.20% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 47.40% were married couples living together, 9.20% were single mothers. 39.80% were not families. 28.00% were single households and 7.50% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.40 and the average family size was 2.96 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.90% residents under 18 years of age, 15.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.60% between 45 and 64 years of age 10.00% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 99.90 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 98.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,454 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,865. Males had a median income of $ 31,605 versus $ 21,720 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,808. 14.80% of the population and 8.80% of families are below the poverty line. 14.60% of them were under 18 years of age and 8.20% were 65 years of age or older.
