The county had 6,424 people as of the 2000 census . There were 15,008 households and 27,030 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.66% White, 0.09% African American, 14.46% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 0.12% other races Groups; 1.48% from two or more races.
