Golden Valley County is a county in the state of Montana in the United States . The county seat is in Ryegate .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 1,042 people. There were 365 households and 263 families. The population density was less than 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.14% White, 0.00% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 0.00% other races Groups; 0.19% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.25% of the population.

Of the 365 households, 26.80% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 66.80% were married couples living together, 3.30% were single mothers. 27.90% were not families. 24.40% were single households and 11.00% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.85.
