Location of the municipality of Cramme in the Wolfenbüttel district | ||
Cramme is a municipality in the Oderwald in Wolfenbüttel , Lower Saxony , Germany , probably from the gender of those von Cramm comes.
Geographical location
The place is located southwest of Wolfenbüttel and west of the Oderwald . The streams flowing from the Oderwald to Cramme unite above the village to form the Meesche , which after just under a kilometer from the right flows towards the Fuhse , more precisely the Alte Fuhse .
Cramme is predominantly agricultural, but is also important as a place of residence due to its proximity to the district town of Wolfenbüttel and the city of Salzgitter and the various industrial companies located there ( MAN , VW , Salzgitter AG ).
history
Place name
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1150 as "Cramme". Since then, the name has only varied occasionally - there are occasional mention of "Kramme" (1269) or "Kram" (1242) - and the first form has been preserved to this day. The name is based on a form Cramme or Cramma, which is derived from the Indo-European “grem” (moist) or Gothic “qrammiþa” (moisture) and the Old Norse “kramr” (moist, half-thawed by snow). The geographical location with the flowing streams and the proximity to the Fuhseniederung could have been a motive for the choice of the place name.
By the way
There are assumptions that the historical Deitweg , which was already mentioned for 747, which coming from Pilsenbrück crossed the Oker in Ohrum and led further into the Oderwald, crossed the Fuhse at Cramme. It is viewed as part of a long-distance Rhine-Elbe route.
politics
Municipal council
The local council from Cramme consists of 9 councilors including the mayor, with the SPD having 6 seats and the CDU having 3 seats (status: local election on September 11, 2011).
There was no change in the distribution of seats after the 2016 local elections.
coat of arms
Blazon : “In the divided coat of arms a red lily above in gold, below a golden lily in red.” The von Cramm family , who owned a castle in Cramme until the 13th century, had three lilies in their coat of arms, to which reference is made here becomes. The colors gold-red and yellow-red of the coat of arms stand for the Duchy of Braunschweig, they remind of Cramme's centuries of membership in the Duchy. The Wolfenbüttel district approved the coat of arms on June 13, 1985.
