history

The first mention of Pillowbrück comes from the 9th century and goes back to a document that is in the files of the Corvey Monastery as number 1419 . Count Thuring bequeathed his property in Pilsenbrück and Neindorf to the monastery. The considerable number of twenty witnesses speaks for the importance of the document. The exact year of the notarization is not known, due to investigations, the date of creation of the document was limited to the period from 822 to 826.

Furthermore, the building of a church by Bishop Hildegrim and later the existence of a royal palace Curtis Cissenbrugea are recorded for the year 827 . Emperor Otto I stayed there in 944 and several documents were issued by other kings in the following decades. Chroniclers believe that this courtyard is in the triangle between the Kisse and Scharrenbeeke streams (today Großer Graben) in the Eulenburg corridor south of the town center. They lead the name back to "oil" like "swamp". The Palatinate is likely to have secured the historical traffic route between the Oker crossing in Ohrum and Schöningen . This long-distance road, handed down as Deitweg , presumably ran between Pilsenbrück and Neindorf. The Deiweg is mapped there or, to the west of Remlingen, the field name Hinter dem Deiwege . After the founding of Wolfenbüttel at the latest, this path finally lost its supra-regional importance and thus probably also the royal court. This became the property of the manor in the 18th century as a writings court.

The Hedwigsburg Castle has been documented since the 12th century, and was predominantly in princely possession and entrusted with jurisdiction .

coat of arms

The draft emblem of Kissenbrück comes from Kleinau and from which in Isernhagen born and later in Hannover living heraldry and crest painter Gustav nations , which includes the coat of arms of Großburgwedel , Melle village , Wunstorf and many other towns has designed. The exact date of introduction of the coat of arms can no longer be determined. It is likely to have been introduced in late 1955 or early 1956; in any case, approval was given by the Lower Saxony Minister of the Interior before January 11, 1956.

Coat of arms of Pillowbrück
Blazon : "In red over waves a silver bridge , in the arch of which a golden mill iron hovers and above which a fallen silver sword with a golden hilthoversbetween two golden ears ."
Justification of the coat of arms: The talking coat of arms refers to the second half of the place name, which has been handed down in a similar form from the 9th century. In the 10th century there was even a royal court here, later a court seat. B. 1360 and 1391 is mentioned. The peasant court was repealed in 1400 by the dukes Bernhard and Heinrich referring the peasants to the Goding and the regional court. As a strict judicial symbol of the jurisprudence of the time, the sword is said to be a reminder of life and death. The mill iron indicates the ferry mill , which is located on the Oker . The ears of wheat symbolize agriculture and its yields, which are important for the region.

traffic

The course book route 353 of the Deutsche Bahn AG (Braunschweig – Wolfenbüttel – Vienenburg – Bad Harzburg – Goslar) runs through the municipality of Pillowbrück. It has been expanded as a two-track main line and is intended for electrification in accordance with the Lower Saxony spatial planning program. In the past, the district of Hedwigsburg had a train station on this route. The federal highway 79 ( Wolfenbüttel - Halberstadt ) runs about two kilometers north of the village in a west-east direction.
