Uehrde is a municipality in the Wolfenbüttel district ( Lower Saxony ). Uehrde is a member municipality of the Elm-Asse joint municipality . The community includes the village of Uehrde itself, as well as the villages of Barnstorf , Warle and Watzum .
history
Uehrde is first mentioned as Urithi in 888 in a document in which the region was exchanged by the Corvey Monastery and transferred to Duke Otto. The ducal fiefdom went to von Bortfeld and von Cramm between 1255 and 1600. Many owned properties here, such as those of Amplebem, Hondelage, Strombeck, Weferlingen and Vordorf. The Braunschweiger Cyriaksstift, the Beatae Virginis Hospital and the Aegidienkloster had shares. A knightly family from Uehrde has been known since 1204. There were still remains of a donjon in 1782 , a windmill built by Duke Julius von Braunschweig can be traced back to 1584 and was still there around 1950.
A house motto on a house facade reads: if you, as a real German man, cannot take you properly after the day's burden and burden, you are certainly not from Uehrde! The author of this saying was the innkeeper, grocer and postman Carl Wesemann, owner of the restaurant Zur gute Quelle . He is also the lyricist of the famous song This is the Uehrder fire brigade, they have no more water… .
