history
Schladen-Werla was formed on November 1, 2013 from the city of Hornburg and the communities of Gielde , Schladen and Werlaburgdorf . The Schladen municipality , in which the four municipalities were previously united, was dissolved on the same date. The municipal council and the mayor of the new municipality were elected beforehand.
The background to this was the population decline and the financial weakness of the former municipalities, which was accompanied by a significant increase in cash loans. A merger with the combined community of Oderwald initially sought by the Schladen municipality did not materialize. All the municipalities involved then agreed to merge to form a unified municipality, which is intended to reduce administrative costs. The state of Lower Saxony has also promised interest and repayment assistance in the amount of 11.4 million euros.
