Location of Beuchte in Lower Saxony

Beuchte is a part of the municipality of Schladen-Werla .

geography

Beuchte is 4.5 km southwest of Schladen on the federal highway 82 and about 24 km south of its own district town Wolfenbüttel . The Harly Forest is in the immediate vicinity .

history

The beech forest, which has existed for centuries, will have contributed to the naming of the adjacent settlement. As elsewhere, the place name "Bokethe" (Buchenstätte) changed over the times in Bochede, Buchede and Bokede. The place is mentioned for the first time in a document dated June 2, 1174, in which the church of Bokethe becomes the property of the Heiningen monastery . His actual age will be a lot higher. The name forms with the endings “ithe” and “de”, as in the surrounding settlements Gelithe ( Gielde ), Lengithe ( Lengde ), Thornite ( Döhren ) or Hetlede ( Hetelde , desert) justify this assumption. Also notable grave goods from tombs near the Upper Schierksmühle (u. A. Beuchter rune fibula ) emphasize an early settlement of the area.

Since the administrative and territorial reform on March 1, 1974, Beuchte has belonged to the Lower Saxony municipality of Schladen in the Wolfenbüttel district . With the transformation of the joint municipality of Schladen into a unified municipality on November 1, 2013, the place became a district of the municipality of Schladen-Werla.
