history
The Altenrode settlement is mainly characterized by the manor of the same name. The farm has existed since the Middle Ages.
As Vorwerk the manor belonged Altenrode the monastery Heiningen ; since 1306 it was completely in their possession. The manor wall, which was built from the remains of Gielde Castle and possibly also the Kaiserpfalz Werla , probably dates from the same year .
In 1756 the chapel house , which still exists today, was built as a Catholic church and school room.
During the reign of Napoleon I , the diocese and monastery were dissolved in 1810. The plant was privatized. In 1872 the manor with approx. 205 hectares of arable land and forest was acquired by the Bremen shipowner Christian Heinrich Wätjen . His family still owns the Altenrode estate, which has been a listed building since 1982.
Altenrode was part of Gielde . With the transformation of the joint municipality of Schladen into a unified municipality on November 1, 2013, the place became part of the municipality of Schladen-Werla.
