Cubzac-les-Ponts is a French town with 2,466 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
geography
Cubzac-les-Ponts is located about 20 kilometers northeast of Bordeaux on the east bank of the Dordogne . Three bridges over the river connect the city with Saint-Vincent-de-Paul on the other side of the river. These are from north to south: a railway bridge; the Cubzac road bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel , over which the D1010 département road runs as a two-lane road bridge, and a six-lane motorway bridge on the A10 autoroute for long-distance traffic. South of the highway bridge creates a fourth bridge across the high-speed line of the TGV from Paris to Bordeaux.
The Atlantic Ocean in the west is around 50 kilometers away.
history
Already in Roman times during the conquest of Gaul , the place was used as a crossing over the Dordogne.
In the Middle Ages , the site was used to monitor the area, in particular with the help of the watchtower of the Château des Quatre Fils Aymon.
During the French Revolution , the parish of Saint-Julien de Cubzac formed the municipality of Cubzac, from which the town of Cubzac-les-Ponts emerged in 1885.
Since there are many limestone rocks in the vicinity , this was temporarily used for structures in Bordeaux.
Today Cubzac-les-Ponts is also active in viticulture and the production of champagne .
