Eyrans is a French commune in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Blaye and the canton of L'Estuaire (until 2015: canton of Saint-Ciers-sur-Gironde ).
geography
The municipality is located 50 kilometers north of Bordeaux and 70 kilometers south of Royan in the southern part of the Blayais on the Route nationale 137 (RN 137), which connects Saint-Malo in north-western France with Bordeaux in the south.
The area of the municipality is 428 ha, of which the greater part is used for agricultural purposes and a smaller part is swampy. The Moulinade, a small river, runs on the eastern edge of the village from north to south.
history
The name Eyrans is derived from Icoranda due to its Celtic origin. The first local ecclesiastical origins are ascribed to the 12th century, while the Saint-Pierre church dates from the 14th century. The church main nave was supplemented by the side aisles in the 19th century. The church tower has three bells, the oldest dating from 1608.

economy
The predominant branch of the economy consists of viticulture for the production of typical Bordeaux full-bodied red wine and dry, fruity white wines.
Crafts and trade play a subordinate role in the agricultural town, while tourism and gastronomy are gaining in importance.
