It was created with effect from January 1, 2019 as Commune nouvelle by amalgamating the previously independent municipalities of Saint-Caprais-de-Blaye and Marcillac , which have the status of Communes déléguées . The administrative headquarters are in Saint-Caprais-de-Blaye.

Val-de-Livenne is located approx. 20 km northeast of Blaye and approx. 50 km north of Bordeaux in the Blayais area of the historic Guyenne province on the northern border with the neighboring Charente-Maritime department .
