history

In the 14th century the parish is known as Sanctus Capraisius . Its name goes back to St. Caprasius, martyr and bishop of Agen . It used to belong to the diocese of Vitrezay and was named Saint Caprais en Vitrezay. To avoid confusion with a parish of the same name near Bordeaux, the parish was renamed Saint-Caprais-de-Blaye on January 27, 1956.

A document from 1578 mentioned it in connection with the recognition of the French king to the Seigneur des Vitrezais for his mill Labatut.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to an initial high of around 580 by the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to 305 inhabitants during brief recovery phases by the 1970s, before a phase with intermittent strong growth began, which continues today.
