The Montendre Castle (9th century) was built on the ruins of a Roman oppidum built. The castle was enlarged in the 12th century and renewed in the 15th century. A round tower , a rectangular tower and parts of the walls still exist from the complex . The Musée d'Art et Traditions Populaires de Montendre is now located in the rectangular tower .
