Nieul-le-Virouil is a French municipality with 578 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Charente-Maritime in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016 Poitou-Charentes ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Jonzac and the canton of Jonzac (until 2015 Mirambeau ). The inhabitants are called nieulais .

Nieul-le-Virouil is about eighty kilometers north of Bordeaux . Nieul-le-Virouil is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Sigismond-de-Clermont in the north and north-west, Guitinières in the north, Saint-Hilaire-du-Bois in the east and north-east, Saint-Simon-des-Bordes in the east, Allas- Bocage in the south and southeast, Mirambeau in the south, Saint-Dizant-du-Bois in the west and Consac in the west and northwest.
