history
Two kilometers southeast of the town, in the area of Bedenac, there was formerly the Landes de Bussac airfield , built in the 1920s. In the beginning it had a grass airfield of about 600 × 600 m. In the time before the Second World War it was expanded.
After the occupation of France by the German Wehrmacht in 1940, the airfield was temporarily used by the Air Force , which expanded it further. Between September 1942 and April 1943 the 1st squadron and from March to June 1943 the 3rd squadron of the Jagdgruppe Ost lay here .
After the war, in November 1946, the airfield was initially used by the French air forces with civilian aviation use from the beginning of 1947. In the 1950s, the area became a location for the US Army without any aviation use. After the Americans left in the 1960s, the airfield was not reopened. The site still belongs to the military.
