The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Blaye and is part of the canton of Le Nord-Gironde (until 2015: canton of Saint-Savin ). The inhabitants are called Donnezacais .

Donnezac is about 36 kilometers north-northeast of Bordeaux . The Livenne River flows through the municipality . Donnezac is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Val-de-Livenne in the north and north-west, Montendre in the north-east, Corignac in the east, Bussac-Forêt in the south-east, Saint-Savin in the south and Reignac in the west.
