history

Place name

Isingerode was mentioned as follows:

  • 1214: Isingerod
  • 1311/1400: Ysingerode
  • 1481: Issingerode
  • 1602: Isingroda
  • 1754: Isingerode

The name Isingerode is derived from a Saxon short name "Iso" or "Isi", which goes back to the designation "īsana", from which both attempts to derive from the Old Low German word root "īsarn" (iron, compare r in English. Iron ) as well “Īs” (ice) must be considered. The ending -ingerode is indicative of a wave of cleared settlements in the 9th and 10th centuries that were created in the northern Harz foreland.

Another Isingerode exists in the Feldmark of Harlingerode in the Goslar district between the cities of Bad Harzburg and Goslar .

prehistory

Excavation of the Schwedenschanze Isingerode

Isingerode's prehistory goes back to the Bronze Age ; an unfortified settlement could be proven for the 1st millennium before Christ. Excavation work has been carried out in the Schwedenschanze Isingerode since 2006.

Local history

Isingerode is part of a number of the Vorwerke of the city of Hornburg . Most of them, including the Appenrode settlement located in the Feldmark and abandoned in 1400 , have fallen into desolation . Isingerode was first mentioned in 1188 in a document from Friedrich the First . An earlier document from Heinrich II. From 1013 is not unambiguous, as more than one Isingerode existed in a narrow geographical area.

Until August 1, 1941, Isingerode belonged to the Wernigerode district . As part of the reorganization of the Salzgitter area, the place was assigned to the Brunswick district of Wolfenbüttel together with Hornburg, Roklum and the Tempelhof plant.

After the Second World War , around 80 residential units were built in the village, after which the Vorwerk was able to increase its population from 160 before the start of the war to around 400 in 1971.

On March 1, 1974, Isingerode was incorporated into the municipality of Schladen. With the transformation of the joint municipality of Schladen into a unified municipality on November 1, 2013, the place became a district of the municipality of Schladen-Werla.
