history
Early history and naming
Neindorf was first mentioned in a document in 822 as Nienthorp . The “ no” is related to Old Saxon niuwi , Middle Low German nie , nige , nigge “new”; whereas in contrast to other regions of Northern Germany (see Nienburg (Weser) etc.) the New High German diphthongization has come about. This means that the name can be translated as “Neudorf”, while the older pillow bridge is seen as a reference point / “old village” .
The following forms of name can be observed, among others:
- 822/826: Nienthorpe
- 1281: Nendorpe
- 1383: Neyndorpe eighth to Oysele
- 1441: Nigendorffe under the oceles
- 1445: Neendorpe in front of the Osele
- 1497: Nendorp under the Osele
- 1544: Neindorff
- 1802: Neindorf
In the district of Wolfenbüttel, in addition to Neindorf (Thought), there are also the desert areas of Neindorf (Schöppenstedt) and Krautneindorf near Remlingen .
Modern times
On March 1, 1974 Neindorf was incorporated into the municipality of Denkte.
