Sottmar is a district of the municipality of Denkte in the Wolfenbüttel district in Lower Saxony with 262 inhabitants (as of March 1, 2018).

The village lies at an altitude between 94 m above sea level. NHN and 112 m above sea level NHN at an average altitude of 101 u m. NHN . To the north-east of Sottmar is the Asse , in the south-eastern foreland of which the village is located. The Rothebach , a tributary of the Altenau flowing into the Oker, flows through the small Feldmark .

history
Early history and naming
Sottmar was first mentioned in a document in 965 as Sutthereim (probably "Süderheim", Südheim). Originally laid out with the Old Saxon -hēm basic word, the place was later adjusted to the ending -mar ( Weimar , Geismar etc.) in various intermediate stages in the 15th century , with minimal influence from the neighboring Wittmar .

Economy and Transport
Sottmar is an agricultural village on the outskirts of the district town of Wolfenbüttel, about six kilometers away as the crow flies . The Sottmar cider factory , a company founded in 2010 that, among other things, serves to preserve the orchards, is of local importance .
The K 31 ( Neindorfer Straße ) connects Sottmar with the Denkter district Neindorf and Pillowbrück in the west and the federal highway 79 to Wittmar and Denkte / Wolfenbüttel in the north. The K 30 , also known as Neindorfer Straße , connects Sottmar to Groß Biewende . The place also has a bus stop in the center, which connects the place to the public transport to Remlingen and Klein Denkte .
