Joanna Domańska (born September 20, 1959 in Gliwice ) is a Polish pianist and teacher.

Life

She studied at the Krakow Music Academy with Jan Hoffman and at the Kattowitz O / S Music Academy with Andrzej Jasinski. She graduated with honors in Katowice . After that, between 1986 and 1987, she studied with Livia Rev in Paris as a French government scholarship holder.

She is an interpreter of Karol Szymanowski's piano works, also appreciated for her interpretations of Johannes Brahms , Maurice Ravel , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Frédéric Chopin .

The artist successfully participated in several international competitions: M. Long - J. Thibaud in Paris 1981, A. Casagrande in Terni (Italy) 1982 and the Festival of Polish Piano Music in Słupsk (Stolp, Poland) 1982. Joanna Domańska became too many Festival invited, u. a. to the following: Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Festa Musica Pro in Asiggi, Maggio Musicale Florentino in Florence, the Chopin Festival in Ghent, Festival de Radio France et de Montpellier, Warsaw Autumn and the International Days of Karol Szymanowski Music in Zakopane.

Her first CD recording at Olympia in 1995 (OCD 344), which was nominated twice for the Fryderyk , the most important Polish music award, caused a sensation among the critics .

In 2007 Joanna Domańska and Andrzej Tatarski recorded a CD with the world premiere of the piano version of Szymanowski's ballet Harnasie at DUX . This CD was again nominated for the award of the Polish music industry Fryderyk 2008 (DUX 0576). In 2008 her third CD (DUX 0615) with works by Karol Szymanowski (Métopes op.29, 12 Études op.33, III Sonata op.36, 4 Polish Dances) was released. The recording was awarded the Supersonic Award by the specialist magazine Pizzicato from Luxembourg .

She has made other recordings for Polish radio as well as Radiotelevisione Italiana and Radio France.

Joanna Domańska leads a piano class at the Music Academy in Katowice and also participates as a juror in important Polish and international competitions. Since 2011 she has been the chairman of the Karol Szymanowski Music Association.
