The Foster County is a County (comparable to a local authority ) in the state of North Dakota of the United States . The county seat is Carrington .

The county is located in east-east North Dakota and has an area of ​​1675 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Eddy County , Griggs County , Stutsman County, and Wells County .

history

Foster County was formed on January 4, 1873 and finally organized on October 11, 1883. It was named after James S. Foster , an early settler and founder of the Dakota Territory .

Six buildings and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of March 23, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Foster County had 3,759 people in 1,540 households and 1,031 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.02 percent white, 0.13 percent African American, 0.43 percent Native American and 0.05 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.37 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.19 percent of the population.

Of the 1,540 households, 31.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together, 6.4 percent were single mothers, 33.0 percent were non-families, 30.6 percent were single households, and 16.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.99 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.2 percent of residents under the age of 18, 5.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 21.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 21.4 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 95.8 men.
