history

Walsh County was formed on February 18, 1881 and finally organized on August 30 of the same year. It was named after George H. Walsh (1845-1913), an early settler in the area and later editor of a newspaper in Grand Forks . Walsh was a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Dakota Territory and the North Dakota Legislative Assembly .

A total of 15 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 3, 2018).
