Emmons County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Linton .

The county is located in southern North Dakota, bordering South Dakota and has an area of ​​4027 square kilometers, of which 116 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by Burleigh County , Kidder County , Logan County , McIntosh County , Campbell County, South Dakota, Sioux County, and Morton County .

history

Emmons County was formed on February 10, 1879 and finally organized on November 9, 1883. It was named after James Emmons , an early businessman from this area in Bismarck .

According to the 2000 census , Emmons County had 4,331 people in 1,786 households and 1,241 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer.
