Stark County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Dickinson .

The county is located in central southwest North Dakota and has an area of ​​3,472 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Dunn County , Mercer County , Morton County , Grant County , Hettinger County , Slope County, and Billings Counties .

The Heart River flows through the county .

history

Stark County was formed on February 10, 1879, and finally organized on May 30, 1883. It was named after George Stark , a vice president of the Northern Pacific Railroad , who helped reorganize the company after it went bankrupt in 1875.

Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 1, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Stark County had 22,636 people in 8,932 households and 5,877 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,526 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,527. Males had a median income of $ 30,474 and women $ 20,000.
